Newborn Photography FAQs
When is the best time to schedule a session?
Newborns are best photographed from 3-12 days old but do not fret about being over the 12 day old mark. We will still be able to get some wonderful images with them being a little older.
If you are pregnant, now is the time to book. I take limited newborn sessions a month and once you schedule I will block out time the month you are due.
How can we schedule a session if the baby is not born yet?
Babies come when they are ready and knowing that we have to be flexible with scheduling. Once you decide that you would like to book your session, we discuss your due date and I will block out a chunk of time for your session. I photograph a limited amount of newborns monthly just to make sure we can fit you in.
How long do newborn sessions last?
Sessions can take up to 3 hours. It 100% depends on the mood of the baby. Rest assured, I will always have a gallery of images that you will love by the time we get done.
How can I best prepare for our session?
Keep baby awake the hour or two before you are set to arrive and hold off on your last feeding. Once you arrive and while I am setting up, feed the baby so he/she is nice and full (and hopefully sleeply) for the session.
It will be very warm in the studio so please dress accordingly.
What if my baby doesn’t want to cooperate?
Sometimes this does happen and that is fine. We will wait it out until he/she is nice and sleepy.
Will my baby be photographed naked?
That is dependent on you as the parents. So of the best images of baby are in the buff and when I photograph, I make sure all the little private areas are not visible.
Do you provide props?
I tend to be very organic in my photography style but I do have a variety of props available as well. If you are looking for something specific, we can discuss at booking and go from there.
Can we incorporate siblings/family?
YES! I highly encourage you to! I photograph in my home studio and your family is more than welcome. As for little siblings, we will photograph them first and have dad/grandma/grandpa take them afterward so that we can have quiet environment for the rest of baby’s session. If having the siblings leave is not an option, I have a wonderful great room and we can put on their favorite movie.
I dont feel ready to be photographed. What now?
You just brought a beautiful life into this world. You are glowing with love and I want to capture that moment with you and your new baby. I understand that moms dont always feel so beautiful after birth but trust me, I will make you look great. Its best to take the photographs than to wish you had.
How can I get ready and get out of the house with a newborn? Im overwhelmed.
I have had many a mom feel the same way. Come freshly showered and bring everything to get ready here. After you feed the baby, take some much needed you time to get ready in our private dressing room while I photograph the baby with dad.
