You've waited nine months, gone through an amazing birth experience and now your perfect, adorable little one is finally earth-side! The first few weeks (who am I kidding, months) after your little one arrives are hectic and besides their first doctors visit, your newborn session is one of your first outings.
Tip #1 | Just get here, lol
I know what you are thinking... That's easy, give me the real tips. Take it from me, the morning of your session rarely goes the way one plans. From longer feedings to poopy diapers and trying to get yourself (and sometimes siblings) ready and out the door, it can be chaos.
Just know that when you arrive, I am here to help! Need to finish your makeup? Go ahead and we can start with just baby. Need to relax and have a cup of coffee? Go right ahead.
Just know in all that chaos, once you get here half the battle is over. I got you.
Tip#2 | Throw all your expectations right out the window. Go ahead, Ill wait.
Babies are the leader of their own session. Now yes, I will always lead them the way we want our session to go but they are the decider.
We lead, they rule. In the end, I normally win and get every pose on the list but there are some babies that just wont do every pose and that is ok!!
Tip #3 | A fed baby is a sleepy baby.
I love well-fed babies and they love me right back. I know you are trying to schedule feedings but I promise you, one day of some extra milkies wont hurt. Truth be told, babies eat more on the day of our session than any day before- Its a workout!
Please bring extra milk for this reason if you are bottle feeding. Breast feeding is ALWAYS welcome in studio and you are also more than welcome to bring your breast pump if need be.
Tip 4 | Bring a pacifier
Even if your little one doesn't like them, bring one anyway. Its a great soothing tool while posing. We may use it, we many not; having the option is always nice.
Tip 5 | Lotion thy skin.
Babies are kinda scaly and flaky. A little lotion before we start really helps.
Tip 6 | Feel free to relax while I have your little one. Catch up with your partner, order food, tik tok, or whatever makes you happy. You can also watch over my shoulder if that is your jam too. I honestly do not mind at all!
Tip 7 | Siblings
I LOVE having siblings in studio. If you have siblings, I prefer to start with family and sibling images first and send them out with dad or grandma while we finish with your baby alone. Its a lot for little ones to sit still and be quiet for that amount of time.
Tip 8 | Please eat!
Mommas, you just grew an entire tiny human and most of you are breast feeding! Bring snacks, pick up breakfast, order in. Just make sure that you are taking care of you!
And above all, know that our session together is going to be AMAZING and you'll cherish these images for the rest of eternity.
