Cake Smash Prep Guide
Welcome to One-derland! I cannot wait to create a fun and exciting cake smash experience for you!
Here's guide to help guide your through making your little one's cake smash smooth and enjoyable!
TIMELINE
Our time together will be packed full of fun starting with portraits without cake, cake smashing and then a sweet bubble bath afterwards.
THEME
You can choose ANY theme your heart desires and we will work together to creatively design your set. Due to the nature of these sessions it is one set only.
FAMILY
I have a lot of questions regarding including family images into the session. Our time together on this day is only dedicated to your little one and a separate session would be best to focus on family only. Little ones (especially this age have short attention spans and we want them to focus and enjoy what we are here for- smashing!)
I HIGHLY encourage your little one arrive only with mom & dad. I know it's so exciting and siblings and grandparents would want to be present, however, the more people, the less great camera eye connection. Too many distractions cause little eyes to look every where BUT camera. Trust me on this one- it makes a huge difference.
CAKE (OR OTHER FOOD ITEMS)
Cake smashes are not limited to cake! Feel free to get the creative juices flowing and choose other food options: Spaghetti, donuts, cookies, pizza, tacos, etc! They all work great! Whichever food option you choose should blend with your desired theme and MUST be provided by you. If you need bakery recommendations please reach out to Angie.
CAKE TIPS
No fondant!! None!! Babies do not enjoy, its chewy, a choking hazard and frankly not smashable. I know they are gorgeous but please go with frosting.
Please leave your cake out of the fridge about an hour or so before our session. Cold cakes are not fun to have little hands in.
Cake flavors can be whatever you desire but I have found that recognizable flavors tend to be the biggest hits. Banana or vanilla are the top flavors. Chocolate cake, while delicious, can look like poop so please keep that in mind.
PLEASE- Have your baby try cake BEFORE our session!
DAY OF TIPS
- Naps are important! Try to schedule your time during your babies happiest time of day.
- Please bring your baby water. Cake makes them thirsty.
- Please bring a towel for after the bath.
- Please come dressed to wear frosting- I can almost guarantee that you and dad will have more frosting on you than your little one.
- Please bring snacks!! Snacks? Yes- some babies are just not into cake and that is OK! We can hide puffs, yogurt bites and/or fruit in the cake and it appears that they are eating. No one will ever know!
OUTFITS
Our session allows for two outfit changes that you provide. Outfits should match our theme and I will be more than happy to help you source them!
One outfit for portraits and one for smashing- If you plan on using one for the birthday party, I recommend it not be the one they smash in- cake frosting dye can stain.
EDITING TIMELINE
